Reporting and Supporting - Hate Crime in Northumberland
10.00 - 3.30 pm Monday 19th July St James Centre Alnwick
Hate crime is an offence motivated by prejudice or hostility based on the victim’s disability, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation or transgender. It can range from one off incidents through to daily abuse and, if disregarded, can become a serious threat to individuals, groups and communities.
I am writing to invite you to an event which will focus on the reporting and prosecution of hate crime in Northumberland and on the provision of support for people who have experienced it.
The event will take place on Monday 19th July at the St James Centre, Alnwick from 10.00am to 3.30pm and aims to:
• Identify the impact of hate crime on individuals
• Highlight current reporting and prosecution procedures
• Explore the barriers to reporting
• Examine what more can be done to support victims
The event will consist of presentations from a range of organisations plus workshops and discussion. It is open to individuals and organisations who are currently involved with the issue of hate crime or who want to know more about the subject. Lunch will be provided.

Minority Ethnic Engagement in Northumberland - Survey
NCDN is working with the County Council to find out how people from minority ethnic groups are supported in getting involved in their communities, and in having a say about services and policies that affect them. We want to hear from a wide range of organisations, groups, companies and agencies, to find out whether you work with minority ethnic groups or individuals, so that we can build up a directory and encourage organisations to network to improve their services. Next year we will be looking in more detail at how to improve things and will be asking minority ethnic people for their views. Your participation will help make a real diffference.
The survey takes a few minutes to complete. If your organisation carries out monitoring it would be useful to have any figures to hand, but you don't need to have this information to take part.
Take the survey
A report of the findings of this work so far is now available to download here, but please keep promoting the survey as we intend to continue to add to the picture of what's taking place.
