North events

UK online events in the north of the County went well with
activities at Amble, Alnwick, and Rothbury libraries. People were introduced to
basic online training and we managed to recruit a few Digital Champions who
will help to spread the word.

Other events at community venues were well attended with a
Skype session at Seahouses Development Trust and more basic online training at
Bellview in Belford.

Rothbury Library Coffee Morning

I spent Tuesday morning in the library at Rothbury, and I was made very welcome by Claire the librarian. I was introduced to Sandra who is volunteering and will now be the Digital Champion for Rothbury library. She is lovely and has a good rapport with the people who use the computers she has lots of ideas so I am looking forward to seeing how they will be developed.

Berwick Library Go – On Event

On Monday Berwick Library hosted a coffee morning to get the local community involved in the Go-On campaign. It was very well attended we had the use of four computers which meant that some of the people attending took their first step on the Internet. They took part in the online quiz and I was so impressed at their perseverance I thought at one point one lady was going to book the hotel in Edinburgh! The library staff were fab and made everyone so welcome. They now have people booked in for online basics.

Ambler Oldies

The Ambler is Amble’s community Newspaper, printed and delivered to every house in Amble. We are all volunteers, collecting articles, writing and editing, under the guidance of our leader, Anna. Apart from one young volunteer, Anna is the only one under 50. She has her work cut out keeping us on the right tracks as far as technology goes.

The Ambler now has its website www.theambler.co .uk  where all the latest local news and opinion can be read.

More volunteers are needed to continue to provide the town and ex-pats as far away as Australia with the up-to-date information that they’ve become accustomed to. Come and join us.

Well, this is my first blog. What next?
